aXRotate – Ambisonic Scene Rotation Plugin
The aXRotate plugin is an Ambisonic scene rotator plugin with head-tracking support via OSC.
Ambisonics allows for very efficient rotation of sound fields containing a large number of sound sources because they can all be rotated at once. The aXRotate is capable of rotating any ambisonic scene up to tenth-order.
The aXRotate plug allows you to rotate the Ambisonics signal around three different axes in the order yaw, pitch and roll.
The aXRotate plugin also allows you to add small oscillations to the sound scene to simulate the micro head movements listeners make all the time. This can increase the sense of spaciousness in static binaural renderings.
AAX • VST3 | Mac • Windows
Spatial Control
Control the yaw, pitch and roll applied to the sound field with the option to individually invert the rotation directions. Perfect for aligning recorded audio with 3D videos.
Add Micro Head Movements
Add small random oscillations to the scene when you are not using a head tracker. This can help with externalisation when rendering static binaural playback.
Connect Over OSC
Control the yaw, pitch and roll by connecting to a head-tracker that sends OSC messages. Allows you to interact with your immersive audio in real-time.
Features
• Yaw – rotate the Ambisonic signals around the z-axis (up/down axis).
• Pitch – rotate the Ambisonic signals around the y-axis (left/right axis).
• Roll – rotate the Ambisonic signals around the x-axis (front/back axis).
• Flip Rotation Direction – Option to individually invert the rotation directions by clicking +/-.
• Micro Head Movements – add small random rotations to you sound scene. This mimics the small involuntary head movements made even when we try to keep our heads totally still. The benefit is that it can improve externalisation when rendering to static binaural.
• Update Rate – select how often the head tracker or micro head movements update. Lower values lead to more smoother more accurate rotations but require more CPU.
• OSC Control – select which port is used to receive OSC messages from a third-party head tracker. You also have the option to display the incoming messages to allow for easy debugging.
• Automatic Order Detection – Processing automatically matches the order of the input signal to optimise CPU usage when working with lower order signals. No need to manually select your ambisonic order.
Process High Resolution Tenth-Order Ambisonics
aXRotate can process any order up to tenth-order Ambisonics, letting you work with the highest spatial resolution currently available*.
* Currently only possible in Reaper 7+ which allows for tracks with up to 128 channels. Other DAWs are limited to seventh-order (Pro Tools Ultimate) or third-order (e.g. Cubase).
Input/Output formats
Input: AmbiX (ACN/SN3D) format Ambisonics
Output: AmbiX (ACN/SN3D) format Ambisonics
Formats and Requirements
• Plugin formats: AAX and VST3
• Mac: Intel or Apple Silicon (Universal Binary), 4GB RAM, macOS 10.13 or later
• Windows: 64bit, 4GB RAM, Windows 10 or later
All plugin formats require a host with an internal routing that supports the required number of channels for Ambisonics to function. Please check that your usual DAW can handle Ambisonics. If it cannot then you should consider using Reaper.
Tenth order Ambisonics requires a massive 121 channels for each track! As of January 2024 only Reaper can handle this so please download the demo version to test if your DAW and workflow is compatible with this product!
Buy aXRotate Ambisonic Scene Rotator
If you don’t need the full power of tenth-order Ambisonics then you can purchase versions limited to first- or third-order.
Don’t worry if you think you might want to upgrade later. Our Upgrade Policy means you’ll never spend more than you would have if you had bought the update in the first place.
